Our first impressions of the Hotpoint Aquarius TCFS 835 GP Condenser Tumble Dryer

This is a ‘state of the art’ looking drying machine in a brilliant white finish which will fit in with any other appliances already in situ.

This appliance can also be freestanding as it needs no plumbing or ventilation as it has a condenser which collects the water in a removeable container which is easily accessible at the top left hand side of the machine.

A large 8kg drum ensures all of your laundry is quickly and efficiently dried without damage and as it has 15 drying programmes there is plenty of scope to get all of your laundry looking in tip top condition with the minimum of energy and fuss.

Looks and design

As expected from a renowned British Manufacturer the quality and care taken to build this dryer is first class. The Hotpoint company has been operating in the UK since 1920 and is one of the top manufacturers of washing machines and tumble dryers in the UK. This tumble dryer comes with a ten year parts and 1 year labour guarantee which gives everyone peace of mind.

This design ensures the user is always placed first- for example the water container is located on the top left of the machine for easy access. The fluff filter is handy near the drum and the controls are self- explanatory.

How noisy is the Hotpoint TCFS835GP?

A very quiet machine running at only 69dB(A) together with a spinning performance rating of a very good B. As with most kitchen appliances care has to be made in siting the dryer as it has to be levelled correctly as any tilt may well cause extra vibration and movement that may result in extra noise.

My dryer is sited in the kitchen and it depends on the type of clothes and the weight of the clothes as to the noise level and I find that this dryer certainly does not noticeably sound noisy at all with heavy clothing being on a drying cycle.

Programmes and features

The Hotpoint TCFS 835 GP Condenser tumble dryer has 15 drying programmes on hand to tailor your requirements to always get the optimum results for your clothes.

An example of this is I used the fibre care button to automatically select a lower temperature setting to dry more delicate clothes.

For a more caring wash the Baby Programme is fantastic for drying small items up to a 2kg weight and the clothes after using this programme are usually ready to wear depending on the thickness of seams etc.

The Standard Cotton programme reduces the need for ironing and in most cases your clothes can be hung up ready to wear straight away.

The Ready To Wear cycle is even better as this dries the clothes to an even higher level but as this is a longer cycle this may not be needed.

Other programmes available are Silk, Synthetics and Easy Iron along with the standard Ready to Wear and Cotton programmes.

As with the majority of tumble driers these days and to take advantage of energy tariffs a time delay can be set for 9, 6 or 3 hours. As time passes the remaining delay will be displayed and the indicator light will flash – the dryer will then start automatically .

Post crease care action will kick in if featured on your selected programme which is an intermittent reverse drum action which untangles all of the washing for easier handling and ironing and in most cases needed no ironing at all!

How well does the Hotpoint TCFS 835 GP Condenser Tumble Dryer dry

Before use I ensured the clean filter indicator light and empty water signal was off.

I chose the jeans Exclusive care cycle as I find that denim jeans are the most difficult to manage and get dry. I made sure that the zips were done up and the pockets were turned out before setting the machine. I set the programme and options and also decided to lock the dryer to ensure that the cycle could not be tampered with ie someone opening the door, stopping the machine etc. To do this you just hold in the 2 option buttons shown in the handbook for 3 seconds and 3 short sharp beeps tells the user that this has been set.

The jeans emerged dry and ready to wear with some very slight damp patches around the pockets whereas my old machine didn’t get jeans anyway near this sort of dryness of which I was really impressed!

Our Verdict

This is an excellent, all round quality drying machine – well built and with all the programmes and options that you would expect from a UK manufacturer at a very decent price.

It runs very well, is easy to use and it certainly does what it is expected to do with ease whilst taking care of your clothes – well worth the money!
