What is the Bush WMDFX714W?

Described by the manufacturer as a great ‘all-rounder’, boasting a decent 7KG wash capacity and a maximum 1400rpm spin cycle. The faster spin speed allows for quick drying due to less moisture in your clothing once your cycle is complete.

A 1400rpm machine also helps to keep creases to a minimum, which is always a help to those like myself who sometimes wish my clothes would iron themselves.

Our first impressions

Only a handful of washing machines ever fall below the £200 price point. For the number of features on this washing machine we have to say this is right at the top of the value for money category.

As mentioned above, at its core the Bush WMDFX714W is backed up with some good numbers. It has a 7KG maximum load and although some machine allow heavier spin cycles you would be looking at almost double the price for marginal gains.

The look and design of the washing machine

The Bush WMDFX714W may not have the space age look of a £1, 000 Samsung AddWash, or the chrome plated finish of a Bosch, but I do like its simplistic interface and minimalistic design. It will not have an issue blending in nicely with the majority of kitchens and utility rooms.

The version we tested has a majority colour white with a black finish to the inner drum and LED panel. The settings dial is nicely presented and easy to read, additional settings are thought the use of buttons located below the LED panel.

How noisy is the Bush WMDFX714W?

Once again we were expecting noise to be on the higher end of the spectrum. A typical wash averaged out at a respectable 59dB, marginally higher than was advertised in the manual. Even a top of the range washing machine will come at high 40’s low 50’s, yes it produces more noise but nothing that is a cause for concern.

When using the maximum spin cycle the noise level peaked at 79dB which is on the higher end of the scale but again manageable. Typically higher end washing machines will peak at mid-to-high 60’s.

What programmes and features does it have?

It’s nice to see that Bush haven’t cut back on functionality to keep costs lower. There are 17 programmes ranging from baby, cottons, economy right through to synthetics and wool.

Like me you may only use a select few of these but it’s nice to know that they are available should the time arise that you suddenly need to use the hand wash option.

Like the majority if machine in today’s market it comes with a child lock, overflow protection and pause facility. For those who may be on economy energy tariffs or wait before a wash starts then a delayed option of up to 23 hours is available.

We tested a regular setting in our household, the ‘quick wash’ option. After 30 minutes the wash was complete and the clothes were relatively dry and fresh.How well does it wash?

As part of the cycle we added our stained towel with a host of small splodges including tomato ketchup, bike chain oil and curry sauce. Results were positive with both the Tomato Ketchup and curry sauce without any trace. The bike oil has always proved tricky in our tests and was slightly visible after the wash cycle.

How much will it cost to run?

Typically you would expect more budget friendly washing machines to have the drawback of being slightly less energy efficient. This is because cost of additional and often more expensive parts are required to gain these increases in efficiency.

This isn’t the case with the Bush WMDFX714W which has managed to achieve a A+++ rating. Quite an achievement in today’s market for this price point.

Our Verdict

For those looking for a no frills solid performer then the Bush WMDFX714W is an ideal choice. It boasts a huge range of available programmes and budget conscious shoppers will be pleased at the triple A+++ energy rating.

Aesthetically the Bush WMDFX714W is simple in design and we can’t imagine a kitchen or utility room that this would not suit. The only minor point is that this is on the higher end of the noise spectrum but nothing too concerning. Overall value for money this has to be one of the best washing machines available.
