Is the modern-looking Indesit My Time EWD81483WUKN washing machine worth considering when you are shopping around for a new machine? This washing machine from Indesit claims to take the chore out of doing the laundry. Six of the cycles let you do the laundry in less than an hour. Indesit calls them Everyday Fast. 

The Mixed wash programme means you can complete an 8kg load in half an hour. But, how well does the Indesit My Time wash your clothes? Let’s find out…

The Indesit My Time EWD81483WUKN comes complete with 16 programmes. Don’t think that all of them are supersonic and wash your clothes in no time at all. As a matter of fact, when it comes to time, the My Time from Indesit is a bit deceiving. 

Cotton programmes are always very popular with households. The My Time has a good choice, but the problem is that they take a long time. 

You have a 60 Celsius cotton programme that takes 3.55 hours. That is almost a 4 hour washing cycle. The two Eco programmes take between 2.55 hours to 3.55 hours. Once again, this is rather a long time to wait for a washing machine to finish.

You also have to watch the load capacity. The synthetics programme which takes 2.55 hours only takes a load of 4kg. 

You have a dedicated 60 Celsius white cycle. Once again, you need to check the time before you close the door. This programme takes 2.35 hours to complete. The 20 Celsius programme which is probably tempting to many households takes 1 hour 30 minutes.

Saying that, there are some super quick-wash cycles on this Indesit machine, too. The 6 quick wash programmes are varied. You have a choice of mixed colors, cotton and synthetics. All of these programs come under the Everyday heading but they do take 59 minutes. The more genuine quick wash programme is Cotton 40 Celsius which takes 45 minutes. 

The Mix 30 takes 30 minutes. If you are looking for a super fast programme, you should try Express 20, but you need to bear in mind it only takes 3kg of laundry.

Other programmes listed on the Indesit My Time EWD81483WUKN space-age control panel includes Wool, Eco, Silk and Delicates. You can also wash your gym or exercise kit on 40 Celsius. That is great but you need to be aware the load capacity is limited to 4kg and the programme takes 2.35 hours. 

Useful features on the Indesit My Time include Rinse and Spin along with Spin and Drain.

Does the Indesit My Time really save time!?

The first thing we need to mention is the spin cycle. On the quick wash cycles, the faster spin speed of 1400 rpm is not available. Instead, the machine speeds at 1200 rpm. This means your washing is still slightly wet when a cycle finishes, but it doesn’t take long to wash, so pros and cons there.

Something to mention is the control panel- if you like lots of buttons and options then you’ll love this machine, but if not, then you’ll need to take some time to read the manual on how to work the control panel.

There are separate buttons for temperature and spin speed with even more buttons for other options. Not a bad thing to have lots of variety, but its not and “quick start” and intuitive as other machines we’ve reviewed.

Energy Efficiency Rating:

Before you buy this washing machine, you should think about its energy rating. Yes, the initial purchase price is more competitive when compared to other washing machines. But, with an energy rating of D, you need to ask yourself how much it is going to cost you to use.

The 8kg drum capacity is sufficient for many households. Potential buyers get six pre-programmed quick wash cycles including a 20 minute cycle. 

The focus of the My Time washing machine from Indesit is not necessarily on making financial savings. The emphasis is more on saving time.

How well does the Indesit EWD81483WUKN wash clothes?

The washing machine certainly has a good range of programmes. Having 16 programmes including 6 quick wash cycles is a lot more than most in this price range offer.

One of the downsides is that My Time does not feature steam or any kind of technology that makes the most out of your detergent. Depending on your choice of detergent and fabric conditioner, it could mean results are less than perfect. 

You also don’t have a dedicated baby clothes wash programme. Knowing which program to choose to get the best results is not easy. 

The spin speed of 1400RPM on most programmes also means the load comes out almost dry- which definitely saves time!

It is great to have a choice of longer cotton programmes. What you need to ask yourself is if the programmes are too long. Bearing in mind that the My Time Indesit has an energy rating of D, it does use a fair amount of electricity when in use.

Final thoughts on the Indesit EWD81483WUKN

This Indesit definitely saves time with it’s varied quick wash programmes and fast spin cycles for  drying clothes. The 8KG drum means it is a good size for medium households, too. And the other thing is that people rave about this machine and reviews are excellent!

So whilst the energy rating for running this machine isn’t the best, perhaps the features and programmes on this machine make up for it!
