Overview of the Mamas & Papas Furniture Set

The Mamas and Papas Rocco furniture set is everything you could possibly want to give your baby a great start! The overall design is a mix of modern and classic function. The set comes complete with a cot bed, three-draw chest of draws and double hanging wardrobe. The version we are reviewing today comes in warm oak but is also available in white.

What we loved about the Rocco Furniture Set:

• High-quality wood
• Style fits with the majority of rooms
• Great value for money

Things to bear in mind:

• Takes two people to put together
• Very heavy

Putting it all together

The delivery arrived and came in 6 unmarked boxes, they were really heavy and it was a workout just getting them all up the stairs. Altogether the packages weighed in at around 145 kgs. I wouldn’t advise going to collect them from the store, even if you have a large van.

We opened all of the boxes and decided to start with the cot bed. A 15-page booklet is supplied in the typical Lego style of page-by-page progress. To put all three of the pieces of furniture together took little over 2 hours. The chest of draws took the longest to complete, simply because each draw is slightly more complex than the rest of the build. We were so pleased once it was finished, it made the whole room look much more like a nursery.

What we liked best

– Flexibility of the cot bed

The Mamas and Papas Rocco cot bed has the option of three positions for the mattress base, so you could use it right through from newborn to toddler. Mamas and Papas advise that once the bed is converted into its final phase, it can be used until they are approximately 4 years old. In our opinion, this gives the Rocco furniture set very good lifetime value.

– Handy changing area

Mamas and Papas really have done their homework, and this is evident with the little extras included with the Rocco furniture- which makes life just that little bit easier. The addition of a changing area on top of the 3-story chest of draws is very useful. It has a small lip running along the outside to ensure that the changing mat will not slip off, and allows you to change your baby around chest height.

As somebody that has changed their fair share of nappies, I can assure you that in the early hours of the morning, anything that makes life a little easier is welcome!

– Style and design

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I couldn’t hold back the smile on my face once we had completed all the pieces and moved them into the nursery.

The high-quality solid wood is clear for all to see and is topped off nicely with simple yet stylish cut out handles. I don’t think I will ever find myself thinking this furniture has gone out of fashion!

What to watch out for

– It takes two

As I mentioned before, this weighs in at around 145 kgs and took two of us to complete. Some parts required one person to hold one section while the other aligned the screw holes and fitted the parts together. Don’t attempt this on your own.

– Optional extras

The chest of draws can be built with or without the changing area on the top- it’s up to you. Also, it would have been nice if Mamas and Papas had included soft close draws, but maybe that is asking a little too much!

– Cot bed setting

Make sure that you set the right height for the cot bed according to the age of your child. We initially set the cot to low, but newborns should have the cot set higher so you don’t have to reach all the way in to pick up and place your baby.

Our Verdict

Quite simply there is so much to love about this set from Mamas and Papas. The parts supplied are great quality and it all fits together with little fuss. It’s clear that Mamas and Papas have designed this with parents in mind. So often companies throw together furniture and you wonder if they have even asked a parent what they think! This isn’t the case here.

Looking specifically at value for money, this set is a premium item. We would have no hesitation in recommending this to our friends and family should they be looking for a fantastic furniture set for their nursery.
