What is the Candy GCC590NB?

This is a condenser dryer which means that it can be installed anywhere in your property or outbuildings without the need of an overflow, outside wall or vent. The heat is condensed and the water is collected into a tray which is empties when the indicator light shows that it is full.

The drum is a huge load capacity of 9kg to save you time and money on energy bills in having to dry smaller loads.

There is an automatic sensor drying cycle which switches the dryer off when the clothes are dry therefore saving you money or manual controls which can be varied by heat, timings and the type of clothes to be dried so that you are completely in control of the drying process.

Look and design of the Candy GCC590NB 9kg Condenser Tumble Dryer

The Bush WMDFX714W may not have the space age look of a £1, 000 Samsung AddWash, or the chrome plated finish of a Bosch, but I do like its simplistic interface and minimalistic design. It will not have an issue blending in nicely with the majority of kitchens and utility rooms.

The version we tested has a majority colour white with a black finish to the inner drum and LED panel. The settings dial is nicely presented and easy to read, additional settings are thought the use of buttons located below the LED panel.

How noisy is the Candy GCC590NB?

This tumble dryer has a noise level measured at 68dB (A) which is a low level of noise and is slightly lower than some Hotpoint models but higher than some of the more expensive dryers. In situating this in the kitchen there was a noise from the dryer in the lounge but it did not detract from being able to read or watch TV.

What programmes and features does it have?

The main feature of this tumble dryer is the Sensor Dry Technology which means the dryer stops when the selected level of dryness is reached which depends on the amount of water in the clothes, the thickness and the heaviness of the load. The Sensor mechanism which has 4 dryness levels senses this out and dries the clothes accordingly ensuring that no energy is wasted on a long cycle.

There are 7 drying programmes and 3 heat settings so that you are in complete control along with a handy 40 min quick drying programme as no-one wants to waste time and energy on drying clothes!

The freshen up cycle is brilliant as this is very quick and a delicates cycle ensures your expensive delicate items are dried carefully.

The wool finish is really good as it is a 12 min cycle to soften the clothes after air drying.

There is an indicator light that shows when the programme is near completion and another to show the end of the cycle and if you want a cooler setting just use the synthetic button for more gentle heat.

An indicator light shows you when the filter needs cleaning- gently pull particles out or use a soft brush but don’t wet it as it may clog the filter, it has to be kept dry.

At the end of the cycle the drum will gently keep rotating for a little while to minimize creasing- the manufacturers just need to find a button to press so that the clothes get ironed as well!!

How well does it dry?

Well this dryer certainly saves on ironing– very few creases but this does of course depend on the type of garment coming out of the machine.

I have noticed a considerable saving on time using the sensor programmes as it stops the dryer from over ‘cooking’ the contents. I noticed that there was very little condensation from the dryer which didn’t steam the house up and the heat generated dispersed fairly quickly.

When the dryer was first put through its paces very little water collected in the container and this is because the machine has a separate internal reservoir that collects the initial amount of water first and so this fills up first and so keep an eye on the reservoir full indicator.

It is worth noting that although the dryer takes up to 9kgs of cottons the maximum for synthetics is recommended at 4kgs and 2kgs for the rapid 40 mins programme.

Our Verdict

A real gem of a machine especially if you have a lot of family washing to dry due to the lovely large drum.

A relatively quiet dryer that doesn’t disturb and it can be placed anywhere in the home without the cost of plumbers!

It does not have as many programmes etc as some that I have used but again the price reflects this but it is a very good basic dryer that does the job – ie it drys!!
